Obituary

On August 22, 2020, Lars John Hancock passed away due to cancer and complications of diabetes. He was born in Payson, Utah on October 29, 1947 to Leo John and Della Larsen Hancock.

Lars graduated from Payson High School and went on to Snow College.

He had many jobs but his most rewarding was as a Substitute Teacher. He mostly taught at Mt Nebo Jr. High in Payson. He taught all subjects, but his passion was teaching the kids with disabilities. He loved them so and was so patient with them.

Lars was an avid fisherman. He promised his mom he would not move more than 15 minutes from Maple Lake, so he took that
to mean he would fish every day. He would tie his own flies. Everyone know his "Killer Diller of the West". What wonderful times fishing at Maple Lake.

Lars had the tallest tales to tell and saved the best for his Grandkids. He leaves behind a Wife, Sarah Paris Hancock (Payson), Daughters, Alicia Hoag Chappell (Payson), Dawn Hancock (Orem), Son Quinn (Melissa) Hancock (Vineyard). He joins a Son, Justin L Hancock, deceased.

Bonus children, Karin (Tyler) Edwards (Payson), Kimberly (Adam) Harmon (Salt Lake City) Sisters Susan (Pete) Schirmer (Payson),, Jane (George) Jakeman (Orem). A Brother preceded him in death Dale (Patsy) Hancock.

His blessing - 15 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren.

He was so loved and will be missed.

There will be no viewing. A graveside service will be held at the Payson City Cemetery on Thursday, Aug 27th, at 10:30 am.
Due to Covid-19, the family requests masks and social distancing at the service.

Lars served in the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program when I was a young boy. His influence was kind and pleasant and I have fond memories of his caring and fun loving adventurous spirit when I was in need of a kind father figure.
My condolences to his family and friends.
Sincerely,
Quin Warnick

There are Very few substitute teachers that I actually remember but Mr. Lars was my favorite and one that I remember the most!! I remember we were always excited to get him for a sub. I love his smile the best, it always made my day so much better and brighter. Thank you Mr. Lars for your kindness and love for us all.

I was one of the fortunate teachers that Lars substituted for. He was so kind with the students, even those that would intentionally try to throw a wrench in the works. He was one of my 'go to' subs because he was so reliable, knew the students and was willing to do all the crazy things I'd left for him. I will miss him. My heart is broken for his family. I pray that the good memories will carry you through this difficult time. Bless you all.
