Obituary

Tina Jeanette (Ballard) Dafoe passed April 7, 2020 at the Utah Valley Hospital of heart failure. Tina was born August 27, 1959 in Covina, California to David Keith Ballard and Marta Elnora (Shupe) Ballard. She is survived by her sister, Kathleen E (Ballard) Meservy, her brother, R Jay Ballard, her son Riley K Ballard and his children.

Riley posted the following on Facebook:

Mom, you taught me to love music and cracking jokes.

To take it easy when you can, do what you want to do with your life regardless of what others are thinking about you, to be independent and do what makes your heart feel whole, were principles you lived by, unapologetically.

Thanks for leaving the doors to every possibility open to me without judgement.

Whenever I hear the songs that you used to sing, I’ll think of you singing them to me when I was a kid. You loved to sing.

Thanks for getting me braces, taking care of me whenever I broke myself off on my skateboard and letting me get the color of cast I wanted, letting me have your Subaru Justy to get myself down to California to take a job as a flight instructor. Without that I might not be where I am (which is in a pretty good spot). And thanks to the Savages, Wyatt’s, Ivies and Meservy’s that looked after you in your last several years…I hope they made you feel as loved and comfortable as I think they did.

When I needed somebody to talk to you were always there no matter if I was in Washington, Idaho, Oregon, California, Vegas, Italy, the mid-east, Louisiana or Florida. Your acceptance of time zone inconveniences is appreciated here.

I remember calling you from a SATFONE on an oil rig 100 miles offshore to tell you about a particularly challenging day. I remember when you and Bill sent me a miniature golf set when I was deployed. I had a hard time figuring out where to set it up, and the ball got stuck in the rocks and sand a lot so it was hard to make a nice putt, but me and the other guys diverted ourselves quite well with it for a time that Christmas away from all of those we loved.

You listened to everything I had to say. It gave me strength to go on further and see things out to the end.

We miss and love you, mom. You left too early.
